Ellisville State School offers volunteer opportunities through the Adopt-A-Friend and Volunteer Programs for people in the community who are interested in learning more about Ellisville State School and interacting with the people served through the agency’s programs and services.
The Adopt-A-Friend program was implemented for persons who receive very little or no contact from outside the agency or the community homes. The program is available to both ESS employees and interested community members who wish to establish and maintain contact with people served by Ellisville State School. Interested participants must complete an application, and background checks, and comply with established policies and procedures regarding visitation and pass approvals. Adopt-A-Friends must be a minimum of twenty-one years of age.
Non-employees of the program may volunteer their time to assist in designated areas of operation. Volunteer applicants must be a minimum of sixteen years of age and complete the application and background check process. Volunteers must also comply with established policies and procedures and will work under a designated supervisor within their placement area. Volunteer hours must be completed between 8:00 a.m. – 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday. Any group or organization that wishes to do a volunteer project on a one-time basis will be released from completing the application and background check process. During any activity provided by a group, an Ellisville State School professional staff person will be assigned.
