As part of the Community Service System, Ellisville State School offers living arrangements for persons with intellectual and developmental disabilities in a more independent environment than the residential setting. The goal of these services is to motivate, challenge, and empower people with disabilities to gain the necessary skills to be as independent as possible.
Ellisville State School operates twelve homes licensed as Intermediate Care Facilities for Individuals with Intellectual Disabilities (ICF/IID). These homes provide living arrangements in five counties and serve adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities. Direct care services are provided twenty-four hours a day in a supervised, home-like setting. Persons with disabilities are offered opportunities to gain independence or interdependence in many areas of daily living, including self-help skills, emergency management, use of medications, meals and nutrition, recreation and leisure activities, and participating in a range of individually desired activities and services in the community. Persons residing in their homes participate in local activities such as going to movies, shopping, religious activities, Christmas parades, and attending community festivals. Professional staff, including QIDPs, social services, psychologists, recreation therapists, nursing personnel, and direct support professionals, provide an interdisciplinary approach to treatment and training designed to assist each individual in reaching their maximum potential. To be eligible to live in the community homes, one must meet the following requirements:
• Must be approved by the Administrative Screening and Review Committee (ASRC) of Ellisville State School
• Age requirement depends on the service area
• Exceptions to age requirement may be made depending on a person’s identified needs
